Description

May decrease valproic acid concentrations, increasing risk of breakthrough seizures. Concomitant use should be avoided.

Mechanism

Carbapenems may inhibit hydrolysis of valproic acid's glucuronide metabolite back to valproic acid, decreasing serum concentrations
